English (Grade 11 – University Preparation)

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will analyze challenging literary texts from various periods, countries, and cultures; interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts; and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms. An important focus will be on using language with precision and clarity and incorporating stylistic devices appropriately and effectively.

Unit 1: Literary Analysis and Critical Reading

Students read and analyze literary texts from diverse cultures and historical periods while developing advanced critical reading skills.

Unit 2: Short Fiction and Narrative Writing

Students examine narrative techniques through short fiction and develop their own narrative writing.

Unit 3: Poetry and Literary Interpretation

Students analyze poetic forms and figurative language while exploring deeper literary themes.

Unit 4: Media Literacy and Communication

Students evaluate how media texts influence audiences and explore techniques used in modern media.

Unit 5: Academic Writing and Argumentation

Students produce analytical and persuasive essays using evidence and structured argumentation.

Unit 6: Culminating Literary Study

Students complete a major literary study demonstrating their ability to analyze and communicate complex ideas.
