Mathematics

The Grade 2 Mathematics course strengthens number sense and helps students develop confidence in problem-solving and mathematical thinking. Students explore relationships between numbers while applying mathematical concepts to real-world situations. The course encourages students to explain their thinking, use visual models, and apply a variety of strategies when solving problems.

Unit 1: Number Sense and Numeration

Students deepen their understanding of place value and practice addition and subtraction using mental math strategies and visual models.

Unit 2: Patterns and Algebraic Thinking

Students identify patterns, describe relationships between numbers, and explore simple mathematical rules.

Unit 3: Measurement

Students investigate measurement concepts including length, height, time, temperature, and mass using appropriate tools and strategies.

Unit 4: Geometry and Spatial Sense

Students identify and describe two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional figures while exploring spatial relationships.

Unit 5: Data Literacy and Financial Literacy

Students collect and organize information using charts and graphs and begin exploring simple financial concepts such as saving and spending.
