Language

The Grade 5 Language course strengthens students' reading comprehension, writing organization, and communication skills. Students explore a wide variety of literary and informational texts while learning to analyze ideas, evaluate information, and communicate effectively. Students continue developing confidence as readers and writers while learning how language can inform, persuade, and entertain.

Unit 1: Reading Development

Students read a range of literary and informational texts while developing strategies for identifying themes, analyzing characters, and understanding key ideas.

Unit 2: Writing Development

Students learn to organize ideas into clear paragraphs and multi-paragraph compositions. They practice narrative writing, informational reports, and opinion writing.

Unit 3: Oral Communication

Students strengthen speaking and listening skills through discussions, presentations, and collaborative learning activities.

Unit 4: Media Literacy

Students analyze how media messages are created and how images, language, and sound influence audiences.
