Interdisciplinary Studies: Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies

This course allows students to develop and consolidate their understanding of interdisciplinary approaches to problem solving through the study of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Students explore the technical, ethical, economic, and societal implications of artificial intelligence by integrating perspectives from computer science, business, data science, and the social sciences.

Unit 1: Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Technology Systems

Students examine the basic principles of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and emerging technologies while exploring how technological systems influence industries and society.

Unit 2: Data, Algorithms, and Decision-Making

Students investigate how data systems, algorithms, and analytics support artificial intelligence applications and influence business and societal decision-making.

Unit 3: Ethical, Social, and Economic Implications of AI

Students analyze ethical considerations, privacy issues, labour market changes, and policy challenges associated with the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies.

Unit 4: Applications of Artificial Intelligence

Students explore how artificial intelligence is applied in industries such as healthcare, finance, transportation, marketing, and digital services.

Unit 5: Interdisciplinary Research Project

Students conduct an in-depth interdisciplinary investigation of an AI-related issue and present research findings and proposed solutions.
