Music (Grade 11)

This course enables students to develop their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of music. Students will explore music from a variety of cultural and historical contexts and will refine their performance and composition skills.

Unit 1: Music Theory and Fundamentals

Students review musical notation, rhythm, harmony, and form, applying theory concepts through listening and performance activities.

Unit 2: Instrumental or Vocal Performance

Students develop performance techniques through rehearsal and practice, exploring interpretation, expression, and musical collaboration.

Unit 3: Music History and Styles

Students investigate musical traditions and styles from different cultures and historical periods, analyzing how music reflects cultural identity.

Unit 4: Composition and Creativity

Students experiment with musical composition using traditional and digital tools, exploring melody, harmony, and musical structure.

Unit 5: Ensemble Collaboration

Students develop teamwork and leadership skills through group rehearsals and collaborative performances.

Unit 6: Culminating Musical Performance

Students present a final musical performance or composition demonstrating their understanding of musical concepts and expressive techniques.
