Description

OLC4O online is designed to help students acquire and demonstrate the cross-curricular literacy skills that are evaluated by the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Students will read a variety of informational, narrative, and graphic texts and produce a variety of forms of writing. Successful completion of OLC4O satisfies the literacy requirement for the OSSD for students who have been eligible for but have not yet passed the OSSLT.

Unit 1: Reading for Information

Students develop strategies for reading and understanding informational, graphical, and news media texts, focusing on identifying main ideas, supporting details, and text features.

Unit 2: Reading for Narrative

Students read narrative texts and develop skills in identifying story elements, making inferences, and constructing written responses to demonstrate comprehension.

Unit 3: Writing

Students develop skills in producing a series of paragraphs on a topic, news reports, and short written responses to reading selections, focusing on organization, conventions, and clarity.
