Description

This course is designed to help students acquire and demonstrate the literacy skills required to meet the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Requirement for graduation. Students will strengthen their reading and writing skills through a variety of informational, narrative, and media texts.

Unit 1: Reading Informational Texts

Students develop strategies for understanding and analyzing informational texts.

Unit 2: Narrative and Literary Reading

Students read and respond to narrative texts while developing comprehension skills.

Unit 3: Writing Skills and Organization

Students practice writing structured paragraphs and short compositions.

Unit 4: Media Literacy and Communication

Students analyze media texts and develop skills in communicating ideas clearly.

Unit 5: Literacy Strategies for Success

Students strengthen reading and writing strategies used in academic and workplace contexts.

Unit 6: Culminating Literacy Demonstration

Students complete a series of literacy tasks demonstrating their reading and writing proficiency.
