Visual Arts: Photography – Grade 12 (University/College)

AWQ4M online focuses on enabling students to refine their use of the creative process when creating and presenting photographic artworks using traditional and digital media and technologies. Students will analyze photographic works critically and explore connections between photography and society, making connections between various works in personal, contemporary, historical, and cultural contexts.

Unit 1: Photography as Art: Foundations and History

Students explore the history of photography as an art form and study the formal elements of photographic composition, technique, and aesthetics.

Unit 2: Technical Mastery: Camera, Light, and Editing

Students develop technical proficiency with camera controls (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), lighting techniques, and digital editing tools to produce intentional and expressive photographic work.

Unit 3: Photography and Society: Identity, Culture, and Ethics

Students critically analyze photographic works from diverse perspectives, exploring how photography constructs identity, reflects cultural values, and raises ethical questions around representation, privacy, and truth.

Unit 4: Creative Portfolio and Exhibition

Students develop a personal photographic portfolio exploring a chosen theme, culminating in an exhibition of their work accompanied by artist statements and critical reflection.
