Writer's Craft (Grade 12)

This course emphasizes knowledge and skills related to the craft of writing. Students will analyze models of effective writing and use a workshop approach to produce a range of creative and technical texts. Students will explore various writing forms, including fiction, poetry, personal narrative, and media texts, while developing their own distinctive voice as writers.

Unit 1: Foundations of the Writing Process

Students explore the writing process, including idea generation, drafting, revising, and editing.

Unit 2: Narrative and Creative Writing

Students create narrative texts, focusing on character development, plot structure, and voice.

Unit 3: Poetry and Creative Expression

Students explore poetic forms and techniques while composing original poetry.

Unit 4: Writing for Media and Digital Platforms

Students analyze and produce writing intended for digital media, blogs, and multimedia communication.

Unit 5: Editing and Publishing

Students refine editing and peer-review skills while preparing written work for publication or presentation.

Unit 6: Culminating Writing Portfolio

Students develop a final portfolio of original writing that demonstrates their creative growth and understanding of writing techniques.
